Resumption of Classes
October 31, 2025
Thank you to all parents, students, and staff for your support in ensuring a smooth return to learning. In response to the recent labour disruption, Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools has made the following adjustments to the school calendar.
Thursday, November 20 was originally scheduled for morning classes followed by afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Interviews, with Friday, November 21 designated as a non-instructional day due to interviews. These dates have been revised — both Thursday, November 20 and the morning of Friday, November 21 will now be instructional time. These updates have been approved by the Board of Trustees and are available in the division calendar on our website. The delay of Parent Teacher Interviews and the issuing of November Report Card or comments will require teachers and parents to remain in close communication as student learning resumes.
Report cards and student comments that were originally scheduled for November will now be issued at the end of January. Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on Thursday, January 29. This adjustment provides additional time for teaching and assessment prior to reporting, ensuring that grades and comments reflect a fuller picture of student learning. The new timeline also aligns with the end of the first semester. To accommodate the January interviews, the Professional Development Day on February 2 will be changed to a non-instructional day. The remainder of the school calendar will continue as originally scheduled, as it is expected that the learning scheduled in the second half of the year will not require additional time. All changes to the Assumption Roman Catholic school calendar will be shared with parents directly, in response to local transportation arrangements with the neighbouring school division.
The provincial government has not yet shared any change to January Diploma Exams and Provincial Achievement Tests.
There is no increase to the number of teacher work days; however, these changes shift more instructional time to November and reduce the challenge created by a November Parent-Teacher Interview with limited assessment or comments to share about student learning. Teacher well-being and student learning are both factors in these decisions.
These decisions have been made thoughtfully to prioritize learning days to the greatest extent possible in the earlier part of the year, while acknowledging that student learning has been impacted significantly. Continued communication between teachers and parents is especially important to ensure students can achieve their personal learning goals for the remainder of the year.
Again, we acknowledge that this period of uncertainty has been challenging for students, families, and staff, and are deeply grateful for the patience, faith, and understanding shown by our community. We will continue our focus over the coming weeks and months to reconnect as a faith community and support each student in their learning.

Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools will reopen to students following the provincial government’s decision to legislate teachers back to work. In accordance with this legislation, teachers across Alberta are expected to return to their classrooms with regular school operations to resume on Wednesday, October 29. The legislation has now received Royal Assent.
We know this period of uncertainty has been challenging for students, families, and staff, and we are deeply grateful for the patience, faith, and understanding shown by our community. We extend heartfelt thanks to our support staff who continued their essential work during the disruption and to our families for their ongoing trust and encouragement.
As we return to classrooms, our focus will be on reconnecting as a faith community and ensuring a smooth transition back to learning. Schools will be carefully assessing the impact of lost instructional time, with particular attention to both classroom and individual student needs. Teachers and administrators will also be attentive to student well-being, providing supports for a successful and compassionate re-entry. Transportation services will resume. Schools and teachers will communicate with families in the upcoming days and weeks regarding learning resumption and support.
To further support learning recovery, summer school opportunities will be offered earlier this year across the division.
We are blessed to welcome our students and staff back to our classrooms. Guided by faith, gratitude, and care for one another, we look forward to resuming our mission of helping each student grow in wisdom, grace, and joy.
Government of Alberta: Letter to Parents Regarding Return to School and Government Supports

Schools across the province will re-open for students on Wednesday, October 29, as legislated by the provincial government. A letter from the Honourable Premier Danielle Smith has been provided to Alberta’s parents regarding the introduction of Bill 2: Back to School Act. CTR will share further information with parents as more resumption details become available.
Premier Smith Letter to Parents
While we understand that Legislation is not yet complete, school divisions were asked to send the Premier’s letter to parents to assist in their preparations.
