Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10th — the day on which the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The Declaration states that each person is entitled to fundamental rights, including the right to equality, and the right to life, liberty and security of the person. It also recognizes the right to freedom of religion and speech and the right to participate in the cultural life of the community. Learn more about Human Rights Day and how to take action in our own daily lives, to uphold the rights that protect us all. https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-rights-day https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/human-rights-commemorative-days/human-rights-day.html
As we journey through Advent, we encourage our students to embody the spirit of generosity and care by participating in our Christmas Market for the K-3 students. This initiative is focused on sustainability, supporting those in need, and following in Jesus' footsteps by using what we already have to bless our community. Thank you for contributing toys and books for the market. So far, we’ve received wonderful donations such as stuffed teddy bears, picture books, board games, baseball gloves, and even wrapping paper—both new and reusable. Every contribution is deeply appreciated and makes a meaningful difference. Although we had a deadline of today to receive donations, if needed, we will gladly accept items on Monday, December 9th as well. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us make this Advent season special for our students and community!
Today is the feast day of St. Nicholas, patron saint of the children. Obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor,” Nicholas used all of his funds to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. Widely celebrated in Europe, St. Nicholas’ feast day, December 6th, kept alive the stories of his goodness and generosity. December 6th is still the main day for gift giving and merrymaking in much of Europe. Simple gift-giving in early Advent helps preserve a Christmas Day focus on the Christ Child. Visit this website for more on St. Nicholas, including arts & crafts, word searches, movies, and other activities: https://www.stnicholascenter.org/who-is-st-nicholas #tisthesesson #stnicholas #advent #OLS
Thank you to all volunteers who donate their time and efforts for worthy causes to make our world a better place! Together we are creating a richer culture of service within our communities. Please watch for volunteer opportunities in our community and through OLS. "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17
