Today we welcomed Pam, proud OLS Alumni and Team Alberta lifter, back to OLS—and she brought some serious pro tips on lifting heavy, in sport and in life. Pam shared her story of arriving in Canmore from the Philippines in Grade 5 and how OLS became a fresh start. She opened up about the challenges she faced after high school, when life became all work and school with little room for social or mental wellbeing. Finding lifting gave her something powerful: new challenges, a supportive community, and a path back to feeling strong inside and out. Her message to our students was simple and inspiring: Create space for yourself. Show up. Persevere. What a night on the court for our Avalanche volleyball teams! Our Jr. and Sr. Girls closed out their final home games with grit, heart, and absolute Avalanche pride. Every rally, every serve, every dive showed the determination and sportsmanship that defines OLS. Our Grade 11 PE class had the incredible opportunity to learn from Olympic gold medalist Chandra Crawford. Chandra spent the morning sharing her insights on current fitness trends, motivation, life as an elite athlete, and what it truly takes to set—and achieve—big goals. She spoke powerfully about facing adversity, using failure as fuel, and building the kind of mindset that carries you through challenges and beyond your limits. Our students were captivated, inspired, and reminded that greatness begins with belief, effort, and resilience. Therefore, on October 31, we strongly encourage all students to report to school dressed as superheroes, ghosts, aliens, historical figures, giant pieces of fruit, etc. A few guidelines: • Do: Look awesome. • Don’t: Bring any fake (or real!) weapons. • Do: Make sure we can still tell who you are for attendance. • Don’t: Be the only one in your regular clothes.
